From first email to moving in, in eight steps
It is simpler than it sounds, and nothing is charged until we have told you that you qualify.

- Get in touch
Send us an inquiry and we answer within one business day. No cost, no commitment at this stage. - Tour or a call, if you want one
We are happy to show you around. We need a day or two's notice, and we confirm the time by email. If you are far away, or would rather just talk first, you can book an online meeting instead. You can also apply without a tour, and since the review takes a little time, it helps to send your application while you wait for one. - Application and documents
You fill in the application and send your photo ID, resume, proof of enrolment or internship, and a financial need statement.
See what the application asks - We review
One of our team reviews everything first, then it goes for final approval. If all your documents are ready, this can be done in a single day. - We let you know
If you qualify we tell you, and that is when the $50 background check fee comes in. Nothing is charged before this point. - Sign the agreement
We send the room and board agreement online. We fill in most of it beforehand, so you read it, check your details and sign. - First month and deposit
Once these are received, your room is confirmed. - Move-in
We set your move-in day, and our site manager cleans and prepares the room. You receive three things: a building key, your room key and a key fob.
Everything it costs, in one place
On top of this there is a one-time $50 application fee, which is not refundable, and a $50 key fob, which is. The deposit comes back after the move-out check.
We do not accept housing vouchers or rental assistance programs such as HRA.
Worth gathering in advance
If someone will be paying on your behalf, we also need a notarized guaranty form from them.
- The GLF application form
- A copy of your photo ID
- A copy of your resume
- A letter confirming your enrollment or internship dates
- A short financial need statement, which we send you
- A $50 background check fee, only after you are approved
What happens on each end
Students and interns only
GLF Residence is a dormitory program run by a nonprofit foundation. It is for full-time students, exchange students, language students, interns and medical trainees. Online-only study does not qualify.
You do not need a guarantor or a US credit history.
This is not a tenancy. You enroll in a dormitory program, which gives you a license to use an assigned room. As with a college dormitory, the foundation may reassign your room or end the enrollment. It is not intended to be used as a primary residence, which is why HRA and other housing vouchers do not apply.
